Wildanet launches Cornwall’s first 2Gig Full Fibre broadband

New service will be among the fastest internet on offer in the UK

Cornwall-based broadband provider Wildanet is launching Cornwall’s first two gigabit per second Full Fibre broadband service, offering customers access to one of the fastest internet connections currently available in the UK.

The milestone marks a significant leap forward for connectivity in the region and underlines Wildanet’s ambition to continue its work to deliver world-class internet services to rural and hard-to-reach communities.

The two gigabit (2Gbps) service has been made possible by the completion of key elements of Wildanet’s fibre rollout, together with a major upgrade to its core network infrastructure, which has increased capacity from a 10-gigabit backbone to a 100-gigabit ring system.

The result is a step-change in speed, resilience and performance, providing the ability to support tens of thousands of subscribers while maintaining exceptionally low latency - network response times - and industry-leading reliability.

Simon Hughes, Wildanet Chief Commercial Officer, said: “The launch of this service isn’t just about faster speeds – it is about setting a new benchmark for broadband quality in Cornwall and showing what is possible when you invest in future-ready infrastructure.

“Digital connectivity in Cornwall has often lagged behind other areas in the UK, which is precisely why Wildanet was formed. With two gigabit Full Fibre now available, it is a clear statement that we’re putting the county on a par with, and in many cases considerably ahead of, the rest of the country.”

Underpinning the new service is Wildanet’s 100-gigabit core ring providing multiple backup routes that allow data traffic to be automatically rerouted in the event of a fault. This goes significantly beyond the fibre infrastructure capabilities of many Alternative Network Providers (AltNets), which often rely on single ‘backhaul’ connections and can be more vulnerable to outages.

To further strengthen reliability, Wildanet maintains dual connectivity to London’s Telehouse main internet exchange, via two separate wholesale providers - National Grid Telecom and PXC - ensuring high levels of service continuity and resilience.

Customers are already experiencing the benefits of this investment. Wildanet’s network uptime reached 99.98% in 2024 and has already achieved 99.99% so far in 2025 - performance levels that surpass many of the UK’s major national broadband providers.

Wildanet is already a key player in Cornwall and Devon’s digital revolution, rolling out Full Fibre broadband to thousands of homes and businesses across the region. This includes delivery of three multi-million-pound contracts to extend gigabit-capable broadband to more than 37,000 premises across Cornwall as part of the UK government’s Project Gigabit.

The company is also a champion of digital inclusivity, with a mission to ensure that the economic and social opportunities made possible by high-speed connectivity are accessible to all.

Wildanet’s new 2Gig Full Fibre broadband is available now in selected areas, with rollout continuing across its network. Customers can check availability and purchase or register their interest here
