Praa Sands Community Centre receives free ultra-fast broadband connection

Praa Sands and District Community Centre has become Wildanet’s latest Community Hub, with the Centre now receiving free ultrafast Wildanet broadband connection, delivered as part of the UK Government’s Project Gigabit programme.

Wildanet CEO & Praa Sands Community Centre Chairman

Praa Sands Community Centre offers a live event every month and a monthly film club together with a packed programme featuring local art groups, fortnightly lunch club, weekly keep fit, yoga and karate classes, activities such as guitar club, bridge club and indoor bowls and other workshops and community events, alongside the popular Summer Fayre. It also provides an important venue for local meetings, fundraising events and celebrations.

The new full fibre connection will help the Centre make even more of these activities possible, supporting reliable WiFi for film screenings and streamed content, online bookings, ticket sales and event promotion, card payments for stallholders and fundraising events, and digital resources for classes, meetings and community groups. It will also give hirers a dependable connection for presentations, hybrid meetings and online training, making the Centre an even more useful and inclusive resource for the local community.

Peter ThompsonChairman of Praa Sands and District Community Centre, added:

We are really pleased that the Community Centre is now connected to Wildanet’s full fibre network. The Centre is used by so many people, groups and organisations, and having a reliable connection will be a real benefit both for the day-to-day running of the building and for what we can offer the community in the years ahead.”

The new connection, which will be available free of charge to the Community Centre for an initial period of three years, has been delivered by Wildanet as part of its work to bring fast, reliable full fibre broadband to rural communities across Cornwall through the UK Government’s Project Gigabit programme.

Simon Hughes, Chief Commercial Officer at Wildanet, said:

“Community venues such as this are at the heart of village life. As a local company, we’re proud to invest in the communities we serve. By providing reliable, high-speed connectivity, we hope to support the Praa Sands Community Centre to continue everything it already does for local people, while opening up even more possibilities for the future.”

The installation was formally marked during the Praa Sands and District Community Centre Summer Fayre on 15th August.

Previous installations to community hubs as part of Project Gigabit include Godolphin Cross Community Association and St Keverne Parish Hall, with more community sites set to follow.

Wildanet currently has full fibre connection capability for over 1,500 homes and businesses in the area, with a rollout programme currently underway. Check your postcode to see if you can get connected.
